On 20th July 1969 Apollo 11 became the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Launched on 16th July 1969 it carried Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Commander Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On 20th July, Armstrong and Aldrin became the fist humans to walk on the surface of the Moon, while Collins orbited above. On his return from this historic mission Buzz Aldrin was presented with this unique medal on behalf of the citizens of New York by the then Mayor of the city John V Lindsay.
This is an important and extremely valuable item of space exploration history.
